July 12 was my birthday.
I have become 28 years old. It seems as if time passes quicker as I become older. Makes me wonder if that will still be my perception when I'm 38. Actually, seeing those numbers on my screen makes me feel like 38 is really old. I guess it is an age where your life should be running well along the right track. Does not seem to be an age meant for experimentation. Well, I guess I'll see where I'm at when I have become 38 years old. For now, I am 28 and I'd like to talk about how I've spent my birthday in Japan.

As we all know, July 2020 is still very much within the timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some countries are carefully reopening and others still breaking national infection records. Japan is a peculiar case. The last few days in Tokyo have shown a sharp increase of the number of infections. About >200 cases per day in Tokyo alone. While some countries can only dream of such numbers, some people in Japan consider it to be very worrisome.

For me, this means that I have spent my birthday avoiding 'too' busy locations. I had originally planned a weekend trip to Atami, a seaside resort town in decline. However, the developments of the COVID-19 situation and the expectation of bad weather (I had no idea that such a large part of Tokyo's Summer would be cold and wet) made me call off the trip.
Instead, me and my wife went to Odaiba. A man made island in Tokyo.
